The Youth Economic Group from Rural Migrant Ministry members  Tatiana and  Somaya spoke to our group about their important work.  They were accompanied by their leader Dawn and visiting volunteer/worker Nina.

The program has been around for 7 years.  Monticello, Fallsburg and Liberty schools all participate, and now there is a student from Livingston Manor.  Initially, they looked for local needs and the way they could be most successful. The opportunity  they decided to pursue is producing silk screened products.  Their business is called Bags for Justice.  They purchase U.S. made products (bags and T-Shirts) and create designs that have to do with social injustices.  They take those issues and create something positive from them.  Their web site is bagsforjustice.com.  They also do custom orders for local organizations ….  Each product carries one tag that explains YEG and what they do, and a second tag explains the purpose of the product and the message it is trying to convey.  Their products sell for about $20 each.  Items are available at their place of business and on their website.

Nina is here visiting from Germany to work and volunteer with YEG.  She will be here until September.  Those from YEG say they are very fortunate to have Nina work with them.

YEG is a great opportunity for these amazing young Sullivan County students.  We thank these impressive  ladies for sharing their enthusiasm and outstanding accomplishments with us.
