It is always wonderful when Connie Keller comes to Liberty Rotary Club to discuss all the great work that Literacy Volunteers of Sullivan County is doing.  As always, Connie brought along a student of the program that is the epitome of why the work of their organization is so essential.  This year's special guest was a gentleman named Jairo from Columbia.  When he arrived in America, he spoke no English, but went to schools to learn to speak the language.  Although he could read and write English fairly well when he arrived in Sullivan County, he told us his pronunciation of the language was still a major impediment.  Thanks to his work with Literacy Volunteers of Sullivan County, he now speaks English very well and is doing well in his profession of veterinary care.  Jairo tells us that his success was due to the time, patience and encouragement of Literacy Volunteers.  He continues to learn and is very appreciative of the help he received from this wonderful organization.  It is always our pleasure to have Connie and a guest visit.  As always, Liberty Rotary Club offered some financial assistance to support all the fine work Literacy Volunteers performs.
Pictured below is Jairo, who thanks to Literacy Volunteers of Sullivan County, is now working as a Veterinarian.
