Liberty Rotary Club was very pleased to have Jay Quaintance, President of SUNY Sullivan as our guest speaker.
Jay discussed how Sullivan County Community College is an anchor in the community and strives to be part of the positive changes that we hope to see come to our area.  He stated that one of his primary goals was that students should use SUNY Sullivan as an avenue to pursuing a 4 year degree.
He has also made efforts to open communication between the local high schools and the college so that they can work together more closely to help increase student achievement and career readiness.
Additionally, Jay hopes to be a conduit to Montreign Resort and Casino and assist in filling gaps in the work force when the casino opens.
Jay also spoke about a potential affiliation between the SUNY Sullivan nursing program and the new nursing program at Laferriere University in Cap Haitien, Haiti (where the Haiti Clean Water Project is being conducted).  LaFerriere University was founded by local members of the Cap Haitien community, including two members of the Cap Haitien Rotary Club, with the goal of providing an opportunity for local residents to learn skills which will allow them to improve themselves and help their community.  Jay was excited about the prospect of SUNY Sullivan students being able to travel to Cap Haitien and students from Cap Haitien coming to SUNY Sullivan.
We are very appreciative that Mr. Quaintance was able to join us for a meeting and let us know about all the good happening at our college.  We look forward to seeing him again soon.
