Dawn Ryder-President of the Board of Directors of Literacy Volunteers of Sullivan County shared an update of how Covid-19 has impacted their program and the efforts they are making to assure their mission continues through these challenging times.

When the pandemic began, all classes went virtual and the book store had to be closed.  Only recently has in person education resumed.  In spite of all the challenges, 4 of their students recently became United States citizens and 2 have completed their high school education and received diplomas.  The bookstore reopened in June, and although sales are bit slower than usual, it continues to serve our community.

Due to a substantial loss of funding from the state and county, the organization is facing a potential fifty thousand dollar shortfall this year. As such, we encourage everyone to take advantage of their bookstore, so that Literacy Volunteers can earn much needed funds.

Liberty Rotary Club made a $500 donation to Literacy Volunteers.  We encourage everyone to like their page on Facebook and to please shop at the bookstore in Monticello.
